A steady ABS warning light usually points to a wheel speed sensor, tone ring, or wiring fault.
Here’s what to check first and when it’s safe to drive.
Why Your G80 II ABS Light Is Staying On
On a Genesis G80 II, a steady ABS warning light almost always means the ABS control module has logged a fault and disabled the system. The most common culprit is a wheel speed sensor — one of the four sensors that reads wheel rotation at each hub. Road debris, a cracked sensor head, corrosion at the connector, or a damaged tone ring can all interrupt that signal. It is also possible you have a wiring issue between the sensor and the ABS module, or in rarer cases a failing ABS module or low brake fluid level.
- Check first: scan the ABS module for stored codes — this points you to the exact wheel and fault type.
- Then inspect: the sensor connector, harness, and tone ring at that corner for corrosion, cracks, or debris.
- Confirm with live data: compare wheel speed readings while rolling; a dropout or zero reading confirms a sensor or wiring fault.
Don't throw parts at it blindly. A cheap scan tool that reads ABS codes and live wheel-speed data will save you time. If the sensor is physically damaged or the tone ring is rusted or cracked, replace the affected parts and clear the codes. If the wiring looks good and the signal is still erratic, test the harness for continuity and check for bearing play that can disturb the tone ring.
