Why a Heavy G-Class Develops a Pulsing Pedal
If your W463 shakes through the pedal — and often through the steering wheel and seat — as you slow down, you're feeling a rhythmic variation in braking force that rises and falls with wheel speed. On a truck that tips the scales at 2,500 kg and up, the front brakes absorb enormous energy, so they're usually the first to complain. The popular diagnosis is "warped discs," and while that's the right neighborhood, it's not always the exact house. What we usually find on a lift is disc thickness variation (DTV): the rotor face is no longer parallel, sometimes by as little as 0.02–0.04 mm, which is enough to push the caliper piston back and forth and send that pulse straight up your leg. In most cases it wasn't heat that bent the iron — it was uneven friction material transfer, hot spots created by hard stops followed by sitting with your foot planted on the brake at a red light, a dragging or sticking caliper piston, or lateral runout caused by rust and debris trapped between the disc and the hub flange. Genuine metallurgical warping does happen, but it's rarer than the internet suggests.
