What's Happening Under the Hood?
When your BYD Qin Plus diesel loses power under load and puffs out black smoke, it's the engine telling you it's struggling to breathe. Black smoke means incomplete combustion — there's too much fuel and not enough oxygen in the cylinders. The usual culprits on modern diesels are a clogged EGR valve (recirculating exhaust gas into the intake) or a partially blocked DPF (diesel particulate filter) that raises backpressure. Both starve the engine of clean air, and the ECU compensates with a rich mixture, which you see as soot.
