What a cold-start stall usually means on an XT5
If your Cadillac XT5 starts and then dies within a few seconds on a cold winter morning, it is usually a fuel, air, or spark control issue that gets worse when the engine is cold. The powertrain control module, or PCM, is trying to command a richer mixture, a higher idle, and specific throttle and ignition timing. A weak battery, a skewed sensor reading, or a small intake leak can make those calculations wrong enough to stall the engine. This is not a normal cold-weather quirk, and it is worth diagnosing before it leaves you stranded.
