If your Chery Arrizo 5 diesel feels flat and gutless under load — especially climbing a hill, merging onto a motorway or pulling away fully loaded — and you are leaving a grey-black haze behind you, the engine is running rich on fuel and short on air. Black smoke is unburnt diesel, which means the ECU is injecting more fuel than the air charge can burn cleanly. That imbalance is rarely a single failed part; on this engine it is usually a chain reaction that starts with carbon build-up in the EGR system, gets worse with a partially blocked DPF, and is often masked by a dirty mass air flow (MAF) sensor quietly reporting the wrong numbers.
