A clunk over bumps usually points to worn drop links, anti-roll bar bushes, or top mounts. Here’s what to check first, and when it’s still safe to drive.
If you're hearing a dull clunk from the front of your Peugeot 308 III every time you cross a speed bump or a rough patch of tarmac, you're not alone — it's one of the most common complaints on this generation. The good news is that the vast majority of causes are wear items in the front suspension and steering, not something catastrophic. The 308 III uses a MacPherson strut front end with an anti-roll bar, drop links and lower wishbones, and each of those has rubber and ball joints that simply age out over time, especially on our pothole-riddled roads.
