Common Causes of Front Suspension Clunking
If your Ford F-150 XIV is making a clunking sound from the front end when you go over bumps or potholes, you’re not alone. I’ve seen this countless times, and it usually comes down to a handful of suspects. The most frequent culprits are worn sway bar end links or ball joints. The sway bar links connect the stabilizer bar to the lower control arm, and when they get loose, they’ll clunk as the suspension moves. Ball joints, especially the lower ones, can also develop play over time, producing a metallic knock.
