What usually causes a front-end clunk on a GLS X167
On the X167 GLS, a clunk or rattle from the front suspension over bumps and potholes is most often mechanical wear, not an electronic sensor fault. The usual suspects are the sway bar end links, sway bar bushings, lower or upper control arm bushings and ball joints, and the top mounts/bearings of the air struts. If your GLS has AIRMATIC or E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL, the air strut top mount and damper can also produce a dull clunk. Less common but worth checking: loose subframe bolts, steering rack mounts, brake caliper pins, and aftermarket underbody panels.
