A delayed, jerky engagement between gears on a Panamera II is rarely normal. Here’s what a PDK specialist checks first — and how long it’s safe to drive.
What’s happening when your Panamera slips between gears
On the Panamera II, that delayed, jerky engagement is usually the 8-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission struggling to apply the right clutch at the right moment. Unlike a conventional automatic, a PDK uses two clutches and a mechatronic hydraulic unit. When fluid pressure, clutch adaptation, or sensor feedback is off, you feel a pause followed by a sharp engagement — often described as slipping between gears. Cold-start jerkiness can be normal for a few seconds, but if it happens hot, under light throttle, or worsens, it deserves attention.
