TANK 500 Front Suspension Clunk: Causes and Safety

A front-end clunk over bumps is often a worn sway bar link, bushing, ball joint, or strut mount.
Check those first, and know when a TANK 500 should be parked until repaired.

What usually causes that clunk

That hollow “thunk” over bumps and potholes is rarely a mystery on a heavy SUV like the TANK 500. Most of the time it’s a worn suspension joint or bushing letting metal move against metal. The usual suspects are stabilizer bar end links and bushings, lower control arm bushings, ball joints, strut/shock top mounts, and steering tie rods. On models with adaptive or air suspension, also look at the ride-height sensors and links, plus the damper wiring and connectors. Loose subframe bolts, worn bump stops, a sticking brake caliper, or a failing wheel bearing can mimic a suspension clunk, so a proper road test and pry-bar inspection matter.
