A loss of power under load and black smoke on your Amarok II usually means the engine isn’t getting enough air or is recirculating too much exhaust. Check the EGR and DPF pressure signals first.
Why your Amarok II is falling flat
When a 2.0 TDI or 3.0 TDI Amarok II starts to lose power under load and blows black smoke, you're looking at incomplete combustion. The engine is getting fuel but not enough oxygen to burn it fully. In most cases, the fault sits in two places: the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system and the diesel particulate filter (DPF). A stuck-open EGR valve dumps too much exhaust back into the intake, and a clogged DPF creates backpressure that chokes the engine. Both will make the turbo struggle and leave a trail of soot.
