If the brake pedal in your VW Jetta VII throbs or pulses when you apply the brakes, the usual suspect is a warped brake disc (rotor). That rhythmic shaking is the brake pads grabbing onto a rotor that's no longer perfectly flat. Instead of a smooth, even surface, the rotor has high and low spots – often called thickness variation. On the seventh-generation Jetta, this is fairly common, especially if the car has seen plenty of city driving or the wheels were torqued unevenly after a tire change.
