A pulsating brake pedal on a BYD Han usually points to warped brake discs. Here’s what to check, which parts to inspect first, and whether it’s safe to keep driving.
What’s That Pulsation Telling You?
That rhythmic pulsing through the brake pedal when you slow down isn’t something to ignore. In most cases—and especially on the BYD Han, which combines heavy regenerative braking with conventional discs—it means the front or rear brake discs have developed thickness variations. Think of a tyre with a flat spot: the disc is no longer perfectly flat, so each time the high spot passes the brake pad, you feel a push back through the pedal. Causes can include aggressive use straight after a car wash, prolonged hard braking downhill, or simply age and uneven wear. On the Han, the disc runout can also be aggravated by the regenerative system’s torque overlaying the friction brakes during city driving.
